ICCS
What is ICCS?
Promoting civic behavior is one of the long-term objectives within the European Union’s strategic framework for education development (ET 2020). The ICCS program studies the ways in which Romania prepares its young people to assume the role of citizens.
ICCS is based on the premise that preparing students for active citizenship involves helping them develop relevant knowledge, understanding, and skills, and forming positive attitudes and behaviors regarding being a citizen and participating in civic activities. Additionally, it documents the contexts in which civic and citizenship education takes place.
The survey comprises five instruments: a student test measuring cognitive processes, a student questionnaire measuring perceptions and behaviors, a teacher survey, and a school survey.
ICCS 2022 samples different schools from each country. EU member states and other European countries had the opportunity to implement an additional European regional instrument for students.
By engaging in the initial phase of the study, participating countries contributed to both the design and the analysis of ICCS 2022 results. ICCS 2022 samples 150 schools from each participating country. The sample varies between 3,000 and 4,500 students per country.
